Are you a passionate Library Officer, who is flexible and enjoys being part of a dynamic team?
Baynton West Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and organised Library Officer to join their team.
The successful applicant will need to maintain a Library Management System of all school resources with an emphasis on data integrity and availability. It will be highly regarded if the successful applicant has an understanding of computers and data bases. You will also be responsible for excellent internal and external customer service and library service in response to the information needs of library users and the overall school community. You will need to perform collection development with an emphasis on selecting and ordering high quality resources that match and enhance the West Australian curriculum and assemble and arrange displays of books and other library materials to enhance lending and awareness of available resources ensuring an inviting environment is maintained.
It will be highly regarded if the successful applicant has experience with budgets and the protocols required for maintaining financial records.
The ideal applicant will need to possess a love of reading and a passion for children’s literature and will be able to work in collaboration with teaching staff to publicise, plan and conduct programs for children including: chess club, recess activities, and lunch time activities.
Baynton West is a new suburb of Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. In the local Aboriginal language, Karratha is said to mean 'Sacred Earth'. The town is situated in the Shire of Roebourne.
Baynton West PS opened as an Independent Public School in 2013, the successful application was written in conjunction with the newly appointed principal and the families who lobbied to get the school built earlier than originally scheduled. This community is passionate about the Independent Public School initiative and each staff member has been locally selected as a result.
The local intake area for Baynton West PS includes the established suburb of Baynton, as well as the new suburb of Baynton West and the newly developed Madigan estate. Situated within a new suburb, the school has become a central focal point for the community. Surrounded by the new homes in the area, roads radiate out through the community with the school at the central hub of this 'wheel'. There is a large playground and community oval shared by the shire and the school which adds even more emphasis on the school being central to the community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing.
- Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
