This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2020 with possible twelve (12) month extension and/or permanency

York District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a proactive, intelligent and passionate Design and Technology teacher to join their team.

The successful applicant will possess the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to teach Design and Technologies (Wood, Metal and Digital) from Year Four to Year Ten. You will ideally have recent experience teaching Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) units and be able to thoroughly implement the requirements of the West Australian Curriculum.

The successful applicant will be expected to support the implementation of the School’s business plan, work and teach in a team environment, be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence based approach to teaching. As part of your standard practice, you will reflect on and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practices using a variety of methods available within the school.

They will have sound classroom management, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students, differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs and to practise a range of teaching strategies are a strong focus for this position.

York DHS is located in a rural community in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia and is situated on the Avon River 97 kilometres east of Perth. The town of York has evolved into a diverse community, based around numerous enterprises such as light industry, agriculture and tourism. Architecturally, the town provides an historic reminder of its European past. The grand history of York, its unique local industries and attractions, combined with its proximity to Perth, ensure its continued popularity as a tourist venue.

The teaching staff is dedicated, innovative, enthusiastic and professional in maintaining the delivery of a quality educational program in a rural setting.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
