About the role

The Assistant Director - Talent and Diversity forms an integral part of the directorate leadership team, working with the Director HR and other branch leads to develop, drive and implement strategic direction. The position promotes, models and operates within the collaborative ‘One HR’ philosophy.

The role oversees the areas responsible for conducting research and analysis on Aboriginal employment issues and workforce development initiatives. The role is also responsible for the Recruitment function with the provision of expertise, advice and assistance in recruitment and selection, vacancy management, on-boarding and specialist recruitment activities across the Department including the bulk recruitment processes of a number of key positions. 

The Assistant Director - Talent and Diversity role is accountable for:

  • Championing change and creating opportunity for business improvement through leading the development of diversity, Aboriginal workforce development, and recruitment strategies.
  • Remaining abreast of contemporary thinking and is recognised as a leader in implementing best practice.  Motivating teams in the delivery of practical, efficient and effective systems and processes underpinning operational activity.
  • Playing a pivotal role in partnering with the wider business to determine in-scope critical and future needs.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of structured in-scope frameworks and programs.
  • Developing robust strategies and innovative solutions to meet demand aligned with legislation, policy, procedures and operational effectiveness.
  • Establishing operational and people capability improvement plans aligned with departmental strategy and functional excellence.
  • Implementing systems and processes for accurate reporting in accordance with internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Providing expertise, advice and assistance across the department on branch outputs, including regulatory requirements.
