White Gum Valley Primary School (PS) is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable and positive Deputy Principal committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. You will work as part of a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school community.

In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative and leadership teams, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, Business Plan and facilitating workforce effectiveness. The initial priority for this position is to establish strong relationships with students, staff and the community. The successful applicant would have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and be a collaborative team administrator. Our focus is on promoting our leadership teams across the school. The deputy principal has a major role in coordinating these teams.

The successful applicant will possess a deep understanding of contemporary curriculum and pedagogy along with an understanding of differentiated practice and strategies to cater for the needs of all students.

The applicant will be committed to engaging in a progressive teacher improvement agenda which will include: modelling practices in classrooms, coaching, mentoring and providing constructive feedback in class observations.

Significant successful experience in managing the behavioural and pastoral needs of students along with the ability to lead the digital learning agenda and working with system data bases would be highly valued.

Our successful applicant would also be required to undertake a minor teaching load in a priority area identified through planning processes.

White Gum Valley PS is a community of learners striving for excellence in an environment of care, support and cooperation. The school was established in 1901 and has retained the sense of community with parents being actively involved in the school.

The staff is highly qualified, experienced and dedicated to teaching and learning. Integrated, W.A. outcomes based curriculum between Kindergarten and Year 6 aims to cater for the individual needs of each child and specific education planning is in place to meet the specific needs of students when required. Our students have opportunities to be involved in a variety of competitions, excursions/incursions and activities along with Sporting and Arts focussed subject areas.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
