Mount Lawley Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a charismatic, passionate, flexible and dedicated Music teacher for appointment to permanent, full-time employment.
Suitable applicants will have a focus on student achievement and high expectations. You will have a thorough knowledge of the Music curriculum in middle years and both ATAR Jazz and Western Art Music in the senior years as well as experience in delivering Cert III in Music Industry. You will promote active learning and provide learning activities which facilitate students at all levels achieving their potential and will embrace and commit to the school’s Ethos and Vision. Music teachers are also expected to assist with after school ensembles, evening concerts, camps, tours, excursions and festivals. Additionally, teachers at the school are expected to embrace the school’s Pedagogical Framework (attached) and the associated program of improving teaching, including peer observation.
Staff will reflect in their work a personal commitment to the values of the school: excellence, respect, perseverance and learning.
Suitable applicants will have exceptional communication, presentation and teamwork skills along with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents and members of the broader school community.
There is an expectation that staff engage in reflective practice, informed by a close examination of student performance data and respond with relevant improvement plans. Teachers should work collaboratively with peers and within their various teams as part of a professional learning community.
There is an expectation that all staff employed by the school have a focus on pastoral care, students’ well-being and commitment to forming positive working relationships with students. Staff will engage with parents to assist student learning and ensure there are no surprises about student progress.
Founded in 1955, Mount Lawley SHS is located within a residential suburb 5 kilometres north of the Perth CBD. It comprises three sub-schools Years 7&8, 9&10 and 11&12. It hosts one of two Gifted and Talented Languages programs in the state, an approved Specialist Visual and Performing Arts program, a Jazz Music program and the innovative Aboriginal Excellence Program as well as the prestigious Follow the Dream Program through the Graham “Polly” Farmer Foundation. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
