Appointment Pool
Yakamia Primary School (PS) are seeking to establish a pool of Mainstream Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
Suitable applicants will work in mainstream classrooms from K-6. They will work under general supervision and guidance of teaching staff to assistant with performing tasks that involve discretion and judgement and achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher. Suitable applicants should have excellent communication skills to work closely with students, parents and colleagues. We are seeking people who have a supportive and caring attitude towards students and teaching staff and have the ability to build positive and sustainable relationships to enhance learning and wellbeing whilst remaining calm in stressful situations. Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent organisational and timekeeping skills, be willing to take the initiative and be flexible in the working environment.

Staff are focussed on ongoing improvement in educational outcomes of all students. We have a whole school approach to improving Literacy and Numeracy and provide intervention programs to support small groups and individuals as per our School Business Plan. Education Assistants play a key role in providing support in delivering explicit educational programs to support student learning and wellbeing.
Yakamia PS, is a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school. The school staff focus on teaching the PBS expected behaviours by honouring the three agreements of Respect Yourself, Respect People, and Respect School. The school has an outstanding pastoral care program and staff aim to teach students processes to cooperate, interact with others and to build a positive culture for learning and wellbeing throughout the school.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
- Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten Students are required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or equivalent), consistent with the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care, as determined by the Principal.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
