PRIMARY NUMERACY COACH

Beaumaris Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated individual to fill the position of Curriculum Coach – Numeracy.
Ideally, the successful applicant will have a good understanding of what it means to collaborate effectively with others and have an established background as an educator in a primary school context. We are looking to appoint a Curriculum Coach who has well-developed teamwork skills and possesses a grasp of contemporary pedagogy in numeracy, including the integration of digital technologies to augment the learning experiences for students as needed. The successful applicant will also have a strong knowledge of integration of general capabilities in the curriculum, and have an adaptable approach to suit staff needs and career stages.
It would be highly desirable for you to have recent and practical knowledge of First Steps Numeracy and a deep understanding of the developmental needs and stages of students becoming numerate. Knowledge of adult learning principles and evidence-based approaches are essential to the role of a Numeracy Coach, and the successful applicant will need to be conversant with a Gradual Release of Responsibility model to assist implementation of new skills, knowledge and understandings.
As the Numeracy Coach you will need to be passionate, organised and have excellent interpersonal skills to work successfully with a diverse group of staff and promote programs to the school community. You will also need to have applied understanding of instructional strategies to engage learners in inquiry, stretch students’ thinking and a proven ability to cater for the range of differences in the classroom. We are looking for professionals who have a strong understanding of the power of assessment for differentiated learning and teaching and proven practice in this element of pedagogy.
Our staff works as a professional learning community and our focus is on student learning and results. Our educators collaborate to respond to students’ needs and our assessment information shapes professional decision making, reflection and practice. One of the key features of Beaumaris is the well-developed Learning Team structure. The staff share knowledge, ideas and action research to continually aim for best practice. The successful applicant will be required to work within these structures and with staff in classrooms.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
