The School of Isolated and Distance Education is seeking an enthusiastic Primary Teacher - Learning Support to join our dedicated team. Passionate and dynamic teachers who are highly skilled with the ability to utilise a differentiated curriculum to accommodate the varied and complex needs of students with learning difficulties should apply.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and best teaching practices to cater for the needs of individual students with a range of special learning needs. The ability to modify the curriculum to support students with learning difficulties is required. Additionally, a sound knowledge of developing and implementing personalised learning plans, assessment tools and Special Education Needs (SEN) reporting is necessary. The Primary Teacher - Learning Support will have responsibility to provide programs and support with transitions from primary to secondary.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to professional learning and demonstrated experience with SEN are important qualities as a Primary Teacher - Learning Support at SIDE. The ability and experience to liaise closely with parents and other school personnel to meet the educational needs of the students is an important part of the role of the Primary Teacher - Learning Support at SIDE. Further, the teacher will have the ability to engage in high-level participation in collaborative team planning.
The role often involves extensive state-wide travel with overnight stays including long distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations. Successful applicants will be required to hold a current and valid ‘C' class drivers licence.
In this role you will embrace the idea of delivering the curriculum through information communication technology (ICT). Teachers at SIDE make use of different technologies to achieve student outcomes. Our teachers are expected to engage students in an online format and use synchronous (WebEx) and asynchronous (Moodle) technologies as the basis of active student instruction.
SIDE, a state of the art online teaching and learning facility, is the centre for distance learning within the Department. Founded in 1918, SIDE has a rich history of student success and achievement for those studying through a distance education mode. SIDE has a large and diverse student population and provides education for a range of client groups across the State. Enrolments are typically students who are permanent residents in Western Australia.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.
