Lesmurdie Senior High School is seeking to appoint a motivated, passionate and hardworking Student Support Officer (Youth Worker).
The successful applicant will provide support for students, build family partnerships and create community links in order to improve social, emotional and behavioural outcomes for our students. The Student Support Officer will work as part of a multidisciplinary Student Support team with teachers, other professionals and stakeholders to develop these outcomes.
The Student Support Officer will need to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will also be required to facilitate identified programs and maintain comprehensive records. A collaborative and consultative approach is essential at all times. Prior experience supporting students through mentoring, counselling, school engagement, assessing levels of risk, interagency links and case management will be considered favourably.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
