South East Metropolitan Language Development Centre is seeking to establish a pool of passionate Early Childhood Education Support Teachers for appointments to fixed term or possible permanent full time and part time positions that may arise in 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
Key to this position is a sense of team and the motivation to work in a highly collaborative environment. Our school is staffed by educators who strive to provide an enriched language program for students who have a recognised language disorder. Staff are supported to be part of a highly collaborative team that develops and delivers quality teaching and learning experiences to students. Teacher’s should foster within themselves sound initiative and the capacity to work independently when required. Flexibility to work across a multi site campus and with students with high communication needs including behaviour modification is important. Motivation to be involved in research and the development of strategies to support the understanding of speech and language disorder is highly desirable.
South East Metropolitan Language Development Centre and Outreach Service offers a specialised program for students with an identified Developmental Language Disorder. In 2015 it became an Independent Public School. The school has a cohort of students and the Outreach Service works with other mainstream schools across the state. Enrolment into the program is through a comprehensive selection process which requires full speech and language testing, parent questionnaires and a psychometric evaluation. The criteria for placement are set by the Department of Education, Western Australia and placement is highly competitive. The Language Centre provides a full time early intervention educational placement for children who have a primary language disorder.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.
