This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2019.
East Kimberley College (formally Kununurra District High School) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, creative and innovative English Teacher who has the ability to work closely with students, colleagues and the community to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for each and every student.
The successful applicant will ideally have recent experience teaching Year 11 and 12 English courses to Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level and can inspire students of all ages and abilities to strive for excellence and is proactive in improving student outcomes. The successful applicant must encompass a strong work ethic, the ability to work in a dynamic team environment, share and promote the school’s values, direction and Business Plan objectives.
East Kimberley College is a Kindergarten to Year 12 school with approximately 1000 enrolments across the school - 620 students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and 380 secondary students in Years 7 to 12. About 50% of our students are indigenous. The school offers comprehensive Engagement, General and ATAR Pathway options with specialised Coordinators appointed to support all students across the Secondary School.
The school is located on a large, well maintained and attractive site in the centre of Kununurra. Students have access to the most modern of facilities to support their learning, despite being a large distance from a major centre.
The school draws from a diverse town population of around 6000, representing Aboriginal communities, agricultural, horticultural, mining and related service industries. An extensive range of State and Commonwealth agencies is represented in Kununurra and they work closely with us to ensure the best support is available for our students
The school has a range of support programs in place for Indigenous students, including a Clontarf Academy (Years 5 - 7), Girls Academy (Years 7 - 12) and Follow the Dream after school support program for secondary students, all designed to support and encourage high outcomes.
Despite the school's geographic isolation opportunities are provided for students to expand their sporting, cultural, academic and social experiences. The school has enjoyed significant academic successes at ATAR level.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
