Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Consultant Pathologist within Anatomical Pathology PathWest. A pathologist with expertise or subspecialty interest in breast pathology and cytopathology would be highly desirable.
The position will be primarily based at the Department of Anatomical Pathology PathWest, Fiona Stanley Hospital, in Perth, WA. However, you will be rotating between various hospitals including the QEII Medical Centre, the Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) and Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) if the need arises. The Anatomical Pathology Department is co-located in the Fiona Stanley Hospital with a capacity of 643 beds; Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital has 600, and RPH has 426. PathWest Anatomical Pathology laboratory processes more than 90,000 surgical and 50,000 cytology cases annually and provides a full range of diagnostic services in histopathology, cytopathology, electron microscopy, molecular pathology and autopsy services to the wider WA community. In addition, large numbers of consultation cases are referred each year by pathologists from within WA and interstate.
The Department of Anatomical Pathology PathWest is one of the very few highly subspecialised departments in the country, therefore, expertise in subspecialties in Anatomical Pathology such as renal pathology, breast pathology, cytopathology, head and neck pathology, endocrine pathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, soft tissue and bone pathology, genitourinary pathology, neuropathology, paediatric pathology, lymphoma pathology, pulmonary pathology, cardiovascular and molecular pathology led by senior pathologist provide the most accurate diagnostic service. This enhances communications with subspecialised clinical services, optimises registrar training and promotes research and development in areas of subspecialties.
The appointee will be highly motivated, will have a demonstrated ability to work harmoniously as part of a large team of Anatomical Pathologists and will provide a responsive, best practice, client focussed service. The appointee will share the Department's strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, to continuing education, and to applied clinical research in pathology. There is a strong focus on registrar training.
