ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY
To be eligible to apply to become a firefighter, you will need to meet the following essential pre-requisites:
- Meet Australian Citizenship requirements or be eligible to live and work in Australia indefinitely (evidence required on application);
- Obtain a Provide First Aid Certificate HLTAID003 (evidence must be provided on application)*;
- Obtain a Western Australian Heavy Rigid (Minimum HR-B) Drivers Licence (evidence of this does not need to be provided until 10 May 2019).
*Your qualification must include the exact competency code above. Some health professionals with higher qualifications (for example nurses) do not necessarily have the specific competency code required and must still obtain this qualification.
You will also be required to obtain and provide us with the following prior to being placed in a Trainee Firefighter school:
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate, and
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check.
Please do not apply for a National Police Certificate or a Working with Children Check until advised to by the Recruitment Team.

Your application is required to have the following three (3) attachments:
- A copy of your CV (preferably in format of the template provided);
- Evidence of your attainment of a Provide First Aid Certificate (Competency HLTAID003); and
- Evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia indefinitely (copy of passport, birth certificate, visa etc).
Failure to attach evidence of your Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003) and evidence of your Australian Citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency, or a Special Category Visa with unrestricted work rights (for New Zealand citizens) will result in your application no longer being considered. It is not enough to state in your CV that you have the required documentation. You must attach evidence with your application.
No other documentation is required - please do not attach unnecessary documentation.
FURTHER INFORMATION
We receive a large number of applications for approximately 24 positions – only the most suitable will be offered positions in the Trainee Firefighter school in 2019. The selection process is multi-staged and takes several months to complete.
Successful applicants will be required to complete the Trainee Firefighter School before being considered for a posting in the Career Fire and Rescue Service. It is important to note that you may be posted to any metropolitan or regional station in Western Australia.
