Our purpose is to benefit the WA community by promoting an efficient and customer focused economy and we have a range of regulatory functions that enable us to achieve this purpose.
The ERA has three main functions. The first is to ensure utilities are operating in the best long term interests of consumers. The second is to ensure the wholesale electricity market is operating effectively. The third is to conduct independent inquiries on important economic issues and make recommendations to the State Government. Current inquiries include reviews of water pricing and the Emergency Services Levy.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to join us on a permanent basis as a Principal Analyst in the Energy Markets division. This division is responsible for the ERA’s roles and responsibilities under the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and Gas Services Information (GSI) Rules and performing other energy market related functions. This includes providing Secretariat services to the Rule Change Panel.
This position will work across the different teams in the Energy Markets division.
The key responsibilities include:
1. providing specialist expertise to the management, undertaking, reviewing and evaluating of complex and sensitive research and analysis;
2. managing the undertaking of, and conducting complex reviews of legislation, policy and specific issues;
3. leading independently, managing, initiating or undertaking, complex, sensitive and/or difficult research projects including:
- using, maintaining, developing and enhancing databases and systems to provide relevant information and outputs; and
- preparing recommendations, determinations, and decisions related to projects.
4. providing and/or coordinating the provision of briefing and discussion papers;
5. increasing productivity by developing automated financial applications; coordinating automated information requirements; and
6. interrogating regulatory and financial information and models, applying relevant analytical frameworks to determine the validity of the information and finding relevant solutions if applicable.
We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill this position on a permanent basis. Suitable applicants will possess comprehensive experience and qualifications, excellent communication skills, strong conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to contribute to an innovative regulatory environment.
