This is a Fixed Term Part Time appointment for 60.8 hours per fortnight, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Position Profile:  

Performs a clinical, consultant, education and research psychology service with children and families within the multidisciplinary and professional team context of the Neonatology Service. Provides supervision to clinical psychology registrars/trainees as required.

Learning Outcomes and Skills Development

The placement offers comprehensive exposure to clinical, professional, and organisational competencies, including:

  • Face-to-face and online orientation prior to the commencement of client-related activities
  • Application of ethical, legal, and professional standards of psychological practice
  • Training in data storage, clinical documentation, privacy, and information governance
  • Familiarisation with, and supervised administration of, the WPPSI-IV
  • Clinical work with children and families across early childhood and preschool age groups
  • Collaboration with paediatricians and consultant clinicians to identify suspected neurodivergent profiles and facilitate appropriate referrals and management pathways
  • Functioning as a psychologist within a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Formulating and delivering evidence-based recommendations and strategies to address parental concerns
  • Report writing, feedback provision, and clinical correspondence
  • Review and auditing of clinical files
  • Participation in professional development activities
  • Exposure to and understanding of the public hospital health system
  • Development of knowledge regarding community, educational, and disability support services
  • Opportunities for involvement in research, service evaluation, and quality improvement activities

Face-to-Face Clinical Experience

The in-person component of the placement will primarily focus on work with children aged 5 years and their families, and will include:

  • Conducting clinical interviews to obtain comprehensive developmental histories
  • Administration, scoring, and interpretation of the WPPSI-IV
  • Completion of detailed developmental histories in collaboration with consultant clinicians
  • Communicating assessment outcomes to parents and caregivers
  • Liaising with schools, early learning centres, and allied health professionals
  • Case management and coordination of care
  • Opportunities to work with children aged 1, 2, and 3 years as service demands allow

An appointee may progress to Clinical Psychologist Grade 2 upon successful completion of a Board approved supervised period of practice and gaining endorsement in Clinical Psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Eligibility to Apply: To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).
