Help Build the Future of Western Australia on the International Stage

Join a department that’s powering WA’s energy transition and building a bold, diverse economy for generations to come. At the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED), your work will help drive innovation, support local businesses, and position WA on the global stage. If you're ready to make a real impact - this is where your next chapter begins.

About the Role

Tenure: 3-year fixed term contract (full-time) with possibility of extension

Location:  Chennai, India

Are you passionate about international trade and investment? Do you thrive in dynamic, cross-cultural environments? We are seeking a highly motivated professional to play a pivotal role in strengthening economic ties between the India-Gulf region and Western Australia.

As the Business Development Manager, with a focus on International Education and Creative Industries, you will be instrumental in attracting investment from the India-Gulf region to Western Australia and promoting trade opportunities for WA businesses in India. You will build strategic relationships with government, industry, regulatory bodies and business, while supporting exporters with tailored market advice and intelligence. Representing WA at trade shows, conferences, and high-level engagements, you will enhance the State’s visibility and influence in India and neighbouring South Asian markets.

In this role, you will identify and pursue trade and investment opportunities aligned with Western Australia’s Investment and Trade Plan. You will promote WA’s key sectors to investors and trade partners, pursue foreign direct investment opportunities, support businesses with market entry strategies, and maintain strong networks with government agencies, chambers of commerce, and industry bodies. You’ll also provide high-level support to the Investment and Trade Commissioner, including preparing briefing materials, presentations, and strategic advice.

You will monitor economic, political, and regulatory developments in India and neighbouring South Asian markets that may impact trade and investment outcomes and contribute to business planning for Western Australia’s strategic focus. Your insights will help shape WA’s international engagement and inform government stakeholders on market trends, risks, and opportunities.

This position is based in Chennai, India and does not attract a relocation package. To be considered candidates currently reside in India and have valid working rights.

As a locally engaged staff member, you will be employed through an Indian-based Employer of Record (EOR), which acts on behalf of the Department. Your employment will be governed by conditions of service that comply with Indian labour laws.
