This is a 6 month fixed term, part-time (0.6 FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2026 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency

West Coast Language Development Centre (WCLDC) is a specialist public school that supports young students with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and significant language difficulties. We provide specialist language and academic intervention using a highly inclusive approach. WCLDC provides intensive support to develop students' oral language, literacy, communication, and social skills. Working in partnership with families and allied health professionals, the school creates a nurturing environment where every child is supported to build confidence, independence, and the skills needed to successfully engage in learning and everyday life. Staff work in a collaborative team that includes teachers, speech pathologists, school psychologist and education assistants.

Our school is located across four sites, Padbury, East Hamersley, Poseidon (Heathridge) and Quinns Beach. The successful applicant will be required to work across all four locations.

The Role

The successful applicant will work closely with teachers and speech pathologists to plan and deliver appropriate supports that promote student development and engagement in the classroom. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate with allied health professionals, external agencies, multidisciplinary school teams and families to support early intervention processes and enhance students’ physical, emotional and educational outcomes.

Working in partnership with staff and families, the Occupational Therapist will support students with a range of learning, sensory processing, regulation and motor needs within the school environment. The role emphasises consultation, guidance and capacity building, enabling staff to implement effective classroom adjustments and strategies that support student participation and learning.

The successful applicant will develop, implement and review support plans that address students’ functional needs, including motor development, sensory regulation and access to learning. They will also coordinate and support the implementation of whole-school and classroom-based programs designed to strengthen students’ gross motor, fine motor and regulation skills.

The Occupational Therapist will liaise with families and external specialists, provide information regarding community services, and prepare professional reports to support communication with external providers and applications for additional supports. Administrative responsibilities and documentation associated with service delivery will also form part of the role. Experience supporting diverse learners through evidence-informed and inclusive practices will be highly regarded.
