Media and Communications Consultant
Salary: Level 5, $108,848 - $118,960 p.a. + Super - PSCSAA 2024

The Office of the Director General (ODG) is responsible for communications, Ministerial and Parliamentary liaison, governance, risk management, and audit within the DTMI. ODG also provides executive, governance and strategic support to the Director General, DTMI Corporate Executive, the Transport and Major Infrastructure Portfolio agencies and the Governance Council, as well as the Offices of the Minister for Transport; Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport; and the Minister for Ports.

About the role

DTMI is seeking a Media and Communications Consultant to support the delivery of strategic communications, media and marketing activities across the Department. Based in Perth, this Level 5 role sits within the Strategic Communications and Engagement branch in ODG. The role supports key projects, initiatives and campaigns across the DTMI particularly, but not limited to, the Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) directorate.

In this role, you will assist with the implementation of communications and media strategies, prepare content for a range of channels, support responses to media enquiries, monitor media coverage and identify proactive media opportunities. You will work closely with Senior Communications Consultants and the Senior Media Advisor, providing support to DVS and other DTMI directorates as required.

We’re looking for

A highly motivated and creative media and communications consultant to join our media and communications team.

  • A confident communications professional who can turn complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Experience supporting communications, media and marketing plans across projects, campaigns or programs.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and channels.
  • A collaborative team player who can work well with colleagues, stakeholders and senior staff.
  • Someone organised, responsive and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive thinker who can identify media opportunities, support issues management and keep work moving.
  • Flexibility to work between office locations in Innaloo and Perth CBD.

  • Prepare and repurpose communications collateral and content for different audiences, including media responses, website content, social media content and proactive media pitches.
  • Assist with researching, coordinating approvals and distributing timely responses to media enquiries.
  • Monitor media coverage and provide advice or updates on relevant issues and trends.
  • Work collaboratively with communications colleagues and stakeholders across the Department.
  • Prioritise work effectively, respond to emerging issues and contribute to business continuity across the team.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
