We are seeking a passionate and adaptable individual to join us as Manager Communications and lead our dedicated Communications Team.

FPC (Forest Products Commission) is a Government Trading Entity that delivers timber products and services across three business segments – plantations, native forest and sandalwood. Our team engages with communities, industry and government to support a vibrant and sustainable forestry industry.

FPC owns and manages softwood plantations to support WA’s housing and construction industry.  We are actively investing in the acquisition of new land and plantations to ensure future supply and assist in addressing the challenges of climate change.

FPC has transitioned its native forest business in alignment with the government’s changes in forest policy.  This has resulted in a shift from commercial scale forest harvesting to the provision of services to the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions for forest health outcomes.

About the role

This role operates in a dynamic, commercially focused public sector environment, requiring agility, sound judgement and the ability to lead through ambiguity while maintaining strong governance and alignment to public sector expectations.

As the Manager Communications you will develop and lead our communications and engagement strategy. As a key leader in FPC you will provide expert communications advice to the CEO, executive team, Board of Commissioners and the broader organisation.

You will lead a small, dedicated team to deliver high-impact internal and external communications, media management, and strategic sponsorship initiatives. You will provide governance through policy frameworks, reporting, and advice on stakeholder engagement and external complaints in support of our strategic priorities.

With our people predominantly regionally based, your leadership will be critical in fostering a positive supportive culture, ensuring all employees feel engaged regardless of location.

To be successful in this key leadership role you will be:

  • A motivated, forward-looking leader with strong business acumen, who can navigate complexity and prioritise competing demands to deliver results in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • highly adaptable with a strong tolerance for ambiguity, with an ability to navigate complexity
  • commercially and strategically minded, with an appreciation of operating in a dynamic enterprise that differs from traditional public sector settings, balancing governance with responsiveness and innovation
  • a skilled problem-solver, able to work with diverse stakeholders and provide high level advice on contentious and complex issues to achieve results
  • an inspiring leader and coach, who develops and supports others to perform at their optimum
  • willing to undertake regional travel to maintain strong connections across the business
