About the Roles

DFES is currently looking for two (2) Chief Superintendents.

Chief Superintendents are responsible for:

  • Maintaining a high standard of operational preparedness and assurance to ensure that all resources and services needed to combat the effects of an emergency can be effectively and efficiently mobilised and deployed.
  • Assuming overall command and control of major emergencies for which DFES is the Controlling Agency.
  • Effective coordination of all available and allocated resources within a region/directorate to achieve best practice in-service delivery responsibilities and work practices, contributing to building community resilience.

Leadership Behaviours are applicable to this role, and you are expected to demonstrate the relevant behaviours aligned to the context of a Multiple Area Leader. Additional details on expected behaviours are attached.

Prerequisites

Successful applicants must have:

  • Completed a DFES Level 3 Incident Controller course or be an accredited Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC), Emergency Management Professionalisation Scheme (EMPS) Certified Level 3 Incident Controller.
  • Possession of Certificate IV or higher qualification in a relevant emergency management field, or equivalent appropriate skills and experience which would allow for recognition of Certificate IV through the DFES recognition of prior learning process.
  • C Class Driver’s Licence.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DFES is an emergency management organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies and additional allowances may apply.

National Police Certificate

A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.  

Choice of Super

The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986, prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, under the WA Fire Service EBA will be required to join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).
