About the opportunity
There is currently one (1) fixed term – full time position with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for immediate filling. This position is currently available until 31 May 2027.
As a Project Officer, you will support biosecurity preparedness initiatives for Western Australia’s avocado industry as part of the Avocado Industry Biosecurity Strategy. Working closely with growers, industry representatives and biosecurity stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of exotic pest preparedness resources, assist with biosecurity exercises and scenario planning, and help strengthen industry readiness and response capability. The role also involves gathering and analysing information on exotic pest risks and pathways, while identifying gaps in pest risk assessments, diagnostic capacity and existing preparedness resources.
We are looking for individuals with:
- Demonstrated experience in project management, with the ability to achieve agreed outcomes within established timelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, organise workloads efficiently, and meet project targets and deliverables.
- Experience or interest in biosecurity, horticulture, agriculture, or emergency management environments.
- Ability to contribute to preparedness activities, including planning, exercises and stakeholder coordination.
- Analytical, research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and provide practical recommendations.
- Proven capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team to deliver outcomes.
