About the Branch

The Infrastructure division has responsibility for the provision of facilities (land and buildings) which includes demographic forecasting and facilities planning, strategic asset management, capital works programs, maintenance and minor works programs, facilities and property management, environmental policy, and security and emergency management.

The Role

The Director Infrastructure Strategy and Planning plays a critical leadership role in shaping the future of education infrastructure across Western Australia. You will lead the development of long-term infrastructure and strategic asset plans, identify future land and investment requirements, oversee business case development and guide major infrastructure priorities. The role provides high-level strategic advice to senior executives, the Director General and Minister on emerging issues, risks and investment opportunities, ensuring decisions align with Government priorities and the Department’s strategic objectives.

Operating within a complex and dynamic environment, you will work collaboratively across government and with key stakeholders to influence outcomes, drive innovation and strengthen partnerships. You will also provide leadership across governance, policy, financial and workforce functions, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance.

This is an opportunity to influence long-term, state-wide outcomes and help shape the future infrastructure footprint of public education.

The Ideal Applicant

We are seeking an accomplished and strategic leader with extensive experience leading infrastructure, asset planning or related portfolios within a large and complex organisation. You will have a demonstrated ability to translate organisational priorities into strategic initiatives and deliver sustainable outcomes in environments characterised by competing demands, complexity and change.

You will bring strong strategic judgement and political awareness, with experience navigating complex issues, identifying emerging risks and opportunities, and providing high-quality advice to senior executives and key decision-makers. You will also have substantial experience preparing and presenting complex business cases, strategic advice, briefing materials and reports.

You will be a highly effective relationship builder, capable of establishing credibility and fostering productive partnerships across government, industry and broader stakeholder groups to achieve shared outcomes.

As a values-driven leader, you will have a strong track record of building high-performing teams, leading change and creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. You will lead with integrity and demonstrate a genuine commitment to ethical leadership and public sector values.

This opportunity will suit a leader who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery and is passionate about shaping infrastructure outcomes that support the future of education across Western Australia.
