We are seeking to establish a pool of innovative and motivated Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Our school is located in the growing suburb of Southern River, surrounded by rapidly developing housing estates. In 2023 Yarralinka Primary School (PS) opened its Stage 2 buildings, which has seen the school expand up to Year 6. Our school community include families of different backgrounds and cultures, many from overseas, where English is not the first language or dialect spoken at home.

The Role
Yarralinka PS are seeking Special Needs Education Assistants with a passion for working with students and are ideally committed to maximising their impact on student learning. Suitable applicants would have high expectations and truly believe that all children can learn and be successful in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. As a valued staff member at our school, you should embrace evidence-based strategies in place across the school to meet the needs of students. Experience in synthetic phonics, MultiLit/ MiniLit, working with students with learning needs, disabilities and social and emotional learning will be highly regarded. You should value the whole child, acknowledging that academic, social, emotional, creative and physical dimensions are vital.
Ideally, we seek enthusiastic team members who show initiative in adapting tasks to meet student needs. You should contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with staff to support student achievement. Suitable applicants should actively engage in self-reflection. Under teacher direction, you will assist in the implementation of education programs. An ability to work with students in out-of-class activities, during breaks in the school day, and on school excursions would be beneficial.
Suitable applicants should display good organisational skills and the ability to provide feedback on student progress to teaching professionals. You will be responsible for assisting teachers with the supervision of students for activities and the general health and wellbeing of students, which may include attending to minor illnesses and/or injuries.

- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
