John Curtin College of the Arts (JCCA) is seeking to appoint a skilled Technical Support Arts Officer.

JCCA is a leader in public education. Our commitment is to not only build capacity in students’ academic pursuits but to make each child the very best person they can be by celebrating achievements in all facets of education, using creativity to promote excellence and nurture wellbeing.

Our college is located on Wadjuk Boodjar in Walyalup (Fremantle) and caters for 1700 students from Years 7 to 12 who come to us through the seven Gifted and Talented programs run by the college for children identified as gifted in the creative domain, including; Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Music Theatre and Visual Arts, as well as through a small local catchment or participation in our Soccer Excellence Program, making the college a unique learning environment. For our enrolled students the college also goes through an additional identification process for learners gifted in the intellectual domain and runs a dedicated program for these students in English, Humanities, Maths and Science.

Engagement in creativity and the Arts is as a vehicle for student engagement and motivation at the college. The Arts at John Curtin is as much about providing dynamic opportunities for all students (each year we produce over 100 performances/exhibitions) as it is about developing transferable life skills such as empathy, creative and critical thinking, collaboration, and the ability to communicate, all important attributes for any future pathway. Staff at the college enjoy the opportunity to attend performances throughout the year.

JCCA is proud to be a Quality Teaching Strategy Lead School and works to implement evidence-based best practice teaching in line with Teaching for Impact. The Role

As a Technical Support Officer – Arts you will support the delivery of the Arts, including Gifted and Talented programs, by preparing, maintaining and organising specialist learning spaces. You will assist with practical, hands-on tasks including costume construction, and the setup of production materials and equipment.

You will maintain appropriate documentation for all equipment, machinery, and materials in accordance with occupational safety and health requirements.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively as part of a production team, to assist in the operation of school and contribute to performances, exhibitions and creative projects, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality artistic learning experiences for students.

MEDIA ARTS

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing and maintaining specialist media spaces, including studios, editing suites and production equipment, ensuring students can safely and confidently engage in filming, sound recording and post‑production work. They will provide technical guidance, troubleshoot equipment, and assist with practical demonstrations to help students bring complex creative concepts to life.

The role also supports a busy production schedule, contributing to school films, broadcasts, exhibitions and assessments that showcase advanced student work. Working closely with teaching staff, the Media Technician enhances the creative and technical quality of student projects by setting up professional‑standard equipment, managing digital assets and ensuring smooth, efficient production workflows.
