Position Profile:
Since opening in early Feb 2015, FSH
ED has developed into a high functioning unit that is the busiest
ED in the state, and one of the busiest in Australasia. It has a
diverse case mix including complex medicine, transplant medicine,
obstetrics and gynaecology, burns, cardiothoracic, paediatrics and
neonates.
The
ED has 85 beds including a 15-bed resuscitation area and a separate
15 bed paediatric triage and treatment area. The department saw
over 110,000 presentations in the last year, with 25 per cent of
those being paediatric. As such, this department provides an
excellent opportunity for paediatric skill development and
completion of your paediatric logbook. We are a pro-active
department that manages a very high acuity caseload with over 1800
priority 1 ambulances per year. Access to procedures is high, with
our emergency staff independently performing over 225 intubations,
70 central lines, 450 procedural sedations and 300 major joints or
fractures per year.
The
department is accredited with ACEM for 36 months of training at
major referral status. FSH ED has a comprehensive primary and
fellowship exam teaching program, active ED academic and toxicology
units, ED Simulation program, as well as an active ED ultrasound
unit with opportunities for Registrars to complete US accreditation
with supervised training time. Trainee Registrars have access to
rotations at FSH in Anaesthetics, ICU, Acute General Medicine,
General Paediatrics and Cardiology. We also facilitate rotations to
regional Emergency Departments to comply with regional ED training
time.
Within
the ED at FSH we have several ACEM accredited special skill
training positions including ED Education and Simulation,
Geriatrics, Research, Toxicology and Ultrasound. Interested
Registrars should indicate interest in one of these on their
application. Applicants are required to complete the attached
‘Emergency Registrar Rotation Preference List’ and
