About the Job

About the role

Join the Public Transport Authority (PTA) as a Principal Investment Advisor and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of public transport infrastructure. In this high-impact role, you will lead the development, prioritisation and strategic alignment of critical asset investment proposals, ensuring funding decisions deliver long-term value for the community. You’ll guide the preparation of robust business cases, project definition plans and budget submissions, while driving the ongoing development of the Strategic Asset Management Plan. Working across government and portfolio committees, you will influence key stakeholders, lead the evolution of investment planning frameworks and provide expert financial insight to support complex decision-making at the highest level.

We’re looking for a commercially astute and strategically minded professional with extensive experience in asset investment planning and business case development. You will bring strong technical expertise in financial analysis, governance frameworks, and risk management, alongside a solid understanding of public sector financial legislation. Equally important are your leadership and interpersonal strengths—your ability to influence, communicate and collaborate will enable you to bring stakeholders on the journey and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment. Highly organised and analytically driven, you thrive on solving complex problems, managing competing priorities, and elevating standards such as cost estimation and investment logic mapping. If you’re ready to shape major investment decisions and make a meaningful contribution to public infrastructure, we encourage you to apply.

About You!

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Comprehensive experience with preparation of business cases/project definition plans/project proposal reports and budget proposals for the asset investment.
  • Sound financial governance and risk management knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of Financial Management Act (FMA) and Treasurers Instructions.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business.
  • Highly developed project management skills, including a proven ability to effectively lead and influence others to achieve team outcomes.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with colleagues and clients in a positive manner.
