About the opportunity

We are seeking motivated Project Officers at Levels 3, 4 and 5 to work in project roles that support and oversee Western Australia’s livestock traceability system. Effective traceability systems are a crucial part of protecting Western Australia’s agricultural sectors against disease outbreaks and protecting our reputation for safe products both domestically and internationally.

We currently have four project officer positions for immediate filling

  • One (1) Level 3 position (24 month contract),
  • Two (2) Level 4 positions (permanent)
  • One (1) Level 5 position (permanent).

Applicants can apply through this process for one or multiple levels in one application. Appointments to the pool will be made to the relevant level depending on the skills and experience demonstrated. Please refer to the JDF of the Level/s you are applying for.

These roles have a range of responsibilities, which may include:

  • Monitoring livestock traceability system performance and supporting the resolution of compliance, data quality and operational issues
  • Analysing traceability data and preparing reports, briefings and recommendations
  • Developing or contributing to policy, procedures and communications to support implementation of traceability legislation and national standards
  • Developing and delivering/supporting delivery of strategic traceability system improvement projects
  • Engaging with livestock producers, saleyards, processors, agents and other supply chain stakeholders to support traceability education, compliance and improvements
  • Administering the NLIS database and related applications in Western Australia

Some regional travel and engagement with livestock industry stakeholders will be required as part of this role.

We are looking for individuals who:   

  • Preferably, have an understanding of or experience working with the livestock supply chain and/or biosecurity system in Australia.
  • Bring a strategic mindset and the ability to analyse complex issues, recommend solutions, and progress projects or activities that deliver system improvements.
  • Have experience developing and/or implementing documented policies, procedures and plans in a regulatory context.
  • Are proficient using modern technology solutions and have an interest in further developing data tools.
  • Work collaboratively within a team.
  • Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide information and advice to industry stakeholders.

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
