About the opportunity

On 22 July 2028, the Kimberley region will host a once-in-a-lifetime astrological event - a total solar eclipse lasting up to 5 minutes and 10 seconds. The Kimberley’s unique landscape, clearest skies and longest periods of totality is expected to draw a large number of visitors domestically and from across the world.

Keeping visitors and locals safe, ensuring access to essential goods and services and securing economic legacy from the eclipse experience in this remote part of Western Australia, are key priorities. DPIRD, together with the Kimberley Development Commission, are standing up a dedicated Program Management Office (PMO) to plan and deliver a program of works in preparation.

We have the following five (5) full-time fixed term positions, ranging from overall leadership, program and project management to essential project support, available for immediate filling:

  • One (1) Director, Level 8 for 2 years*
  • One (1) Program Manager, Level 7 for up to 3 years (but no longer than 30 June 2029)
  • Two (2) Project Managers, Level 6 for 2 years*
  • One (1) Project Officer, Level 4 for 2 years*

*Positions for two (2) years may have the possibility of up to a two-to-three-month extension.

Areas of work include delivering funding for critical infrastructure, health, safety and emergency management coordination, stakeholder and community engagement, event management, communications and supporting the PMO’s coordination of this multi-agency initiative.

There may be flexibility to work from home in accordance with the department’s policy and business needs.

  • Exceptional communication skills, able to work on complex, cross agency projects with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strategic planning skills, able to deal with competing demands, and identify and mitigate risk to achieve positive outcomes.
  • An eye for detail, be highly organised and a team player.
  • An understanding of government processes such as governance, compliance and probity.

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense.
