There is currently one (1) permanent, full-time position available for immediate filling.

As a Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and compliant end‑to‑end payroll services. This role suits an experienced payroll professional who is comfortable working with minimal supervision, uses sound judgement, and is relied upon by others for payroll advice and guidance.

A large part of this role is about being organised and proactive, regularly checking payroll reports, identifying matters that need action, following up discrepancies, and investigating potential overpayments to prevent issues before they escalate. You’ll also respond to payroll queries, resolve more complex matters, and contribute to improving payroll processes and controls. You won’t just process payroll; you’ll help keep it running smoothly.

You’ll be joining a payroll team that is actively building toward higher capability and maturity. We work collaboratively, support each other’s development and share knowledge to strengthen our collective expertise. While we take our responsibilities seriously, we also believe a positive team culture matters, we like to laugh, ask questions and work through problems together.

We are looking for individuals with:   

  • Demonstrated experience delivering end‑to‑end payroll processing in a complex payroll environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll processes, practices and relevant industrial instruments.
  • Well‑developed organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, monitor reports and follow up actions.
  • Proven ability to identify, investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, including potential overpayments.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to work accurately within payroll deadlines.
  • Experience resolving customers and team members Payroll problems through a collaborative and clear communication style.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency, and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense.
