About the Job

About the role

This role is central to ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient first‑line maintenance of signalling equipment, protected level crossings and associated systems across the network. You will oversee and guide work teams, providing technical leadership, on‑the‑job training and support in fault finding, system diagnostics and root cause analysis. The position undertakes a wide range of technical tasks, including routine maintenance, system testing, functional commissioning, and the interpretation and amendment of technical drawings. You will also carry out measurements, assist with design requirements, install monitoring equipment, and lead investigations into complex or obscure signalling failures to enhance system integrity and performance.

In addition to delivering high‑quality technical work, you will ensure all activities comply with PTA safety, access and operational standards while maintaining tools, equipment and worksites to a high standard. The role contributes to continuous improvement through accurate reporting, documentation and maintenance record keeping, and by promoting best practice across the team. A strong focus on professional development is also embedded in this position, as you will coach and mentor signals personnel, deliver technical briefings, support the development of apprentices and maintain required competencies, accreditations and licences. This is an opportunity to apply specialist signalling expertise while helping to build capability and improve asset reliability across the network.

About You!

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • Strong practical experience in maintaining and fault‑finding on power signalling systems, protected level crossings and associated equipment, including Remote Control, CTC and complex interlocking systems. Able to apply safety and operational procedures, use specialist tools and test equipment, perform electrical calculations and interpret technical drawings.
  • Holds a current WA ‘A’ Grade Electrical Workers Licence (Electrical Mechanic and/or Electrical Fitter) or equivalent, with progress toward a relevant AQF4 post‑trade qualification. Possesses a current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (or LR/MR), maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Sound leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to monitor, schedule and coordinate work safely and efficiently; lead and motivate others; and provide on‑the‑job training, instruction and assessment.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, supported by effective record‑keeping and report‑writing ability. Demonstrated proficiency in analysing data logs, identifying root causes, recommending process improvements, and preparing reports. Able to diagnose and rectify faults on complex electrical and signalling systems, interrogate system logs, and use relevant software and computer equipment to support fault analysis.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, willingness to participate in ongoing training and development, and the ability to use initiative, sound judgement and work reliably as part of a team.
