The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity
exists to join the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) as a senior
leader responsible for a diverse portfolio, overseeing a
multi‑functional team responsible for sales, marketing, brand and
community engagement across the organisation.
As Director Business Development this role shapes how the MCB
connects with the community it serves, ensuring services and
products remain accessible, culturally sensitive and responsive,
while supporting long‑term financial sustainability, organisational
priorities and regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will work closely
with executive colleagues and key stakeholders to strengthen the
MCB’s brand, expand market opportunities and ensure services,
products and engagement initiatives align with organisational
priorities and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Provide strategic leadership for sales and booking
functions, ensuring consistent service standards, regulatory
compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement sales and market strategies that
respond to customer needs, community expectations and emerging
industry trends.
- Analyse market and customer data to identify trends, risks
and growth opportunities.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with funeral
directors, religious and cultural groups, suppliers and
community organisations.
- Lead community engagement, education and outreach
initiatives to improve public awareness of cemetery services
and industry practices.
- Oversee marketing and communications activities, ensuring
brand consistency and alignment with values, community
expectations and market positioning.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the
following:
- Experience in sales management, ideally within a
service‑oriented, regulated or community‑focused
environment.
- Ability to establish, benchmark and improve performance
metrics.
- Experience using data and insights to drive improvements
across products, customers, services and delivery
channels.
- Extensive experience building and managing high‑level
relationships with a diverse range of internal and external
stakeholders.
- People leadership experience, including managing
multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to leverage technology, digital platforms and data
systems to support sales, marketing, customer engagement and
performance reporting.
There is currently one [1] permanent position available for
