The Opportunity

The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) is seeking an experienced senior leader to lead its Property Services Directorate and provide strategic stewardship of a significant land and infrastructure portfolio that delivers essential services to the Western Australian community.

This role offers a rare opportunity to shape the long‑term sustainability, development and optimisation of a complex public sector property portfolio, balancing statutory obligations, community expectations and environmental responsibility.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director Property Services provides strategic leadership to senior managers and multidisciplinary teams responsible for the planning, development and management of the MCB’s land and infrastructure portfolio. Operating in a highly visible and complex stakeholder environment, the role leads the delivery of the Strategic Development Plan and Asset Investment Plans to ensure assets are fit‑for‑purpose, aligned with community expectations, and deliver sustainable returns on investment and long‑term public value.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead property, land use, leasing, acquisition and disposal strategies to optimise asset value and public outcomes
  • Deliver major capital works projects on time, within budget and to scope
  • Ensure land, buildings, capital works projects and day‑to‑day operations comply with environmental, planning, accessibility and work health and safety
  • Develop and implement master plans, policies and frameworks for land and asset management
  • Build strong relationships across government, industry and the community
  • Provide strategic and risk‑informed advice on land supply, future demand and emerging trends

About Us

At the MCB, you’ll be part of something bigger than a workplace! Preserving cultural heritage, fostering community connections, and delivering vital public services. We offer a collaborative and inclusive environment where you are recognised, your ideas are valued, and your impact is felt every day. Join us and help shape a legacy that matters. As a self-funded statutory authority, the MCB operates seven cemeteries and memorial parks across Greater Perth.

Our Aspiration: To be a sanctuary for our community, preserving history and culture and providing places for remembrance and connection.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience managing a large, complex property or land portfolio, ideally in the public sector or delivery of community services
  • Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks relevant to land and asset management
  • Demonstrated success leading capital works and infrastructure programs
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication
  • Proven capability in people leadership, financial management and strategic decision‑making
