What is the Role?
Western Australia’s energy markets are undergoing rapid and consequential change. The Economic Regulation Authority is seeking senior leaders to play a pivotal role in shaping how these markets evolve—ensuring they operate effectively, fairly and in the long‑term interests of consumers. To strengthen its executive leadership at this critical time, the ERA has established two new Executive Director positions.
These Executive Director roles are full time, fixed term Senior Executive Service (SES) appointments for a period of up to 5 years. The Executive Directors will provide strategic and technical leadership across the Energy Markets division. Working at the centre of complex regulatory issues, you will lead high‑performing teams responsible for market regulation, monitoring, compliance, investigations and strategic reform.
The Executive Director, Market Regulation and Strategy will lead the ERA’s market regulation, strategy and reform agenda, with a focus on market design, regulatory reviews, performance assessment and supporting the energy transition through rigorous regulatory thinking. The Market Regulation and Strategy team currently comprises 15 employees, including two direct reports to the Executive Director.
The Executive Director, Monitoring and Compliance will lead the Authority’s monitoring, compliance and investigations functions, ensuring market participants meet their obligations and that energy markets operate with integrity and transparency. The Monitoring and Compliance team currently comprises 21 employees, including three direct reports to the Executive Director.
Reporting to the Deputy CEO, Energy Markets, you will be trusted advisers to the ERA’s Executive and Governing Body (Board), providing clear, evidence‑based advice on complex market and regulatory matters. The roles involve close engagement with industry, government and other regulators, with a focus on improving regulatory effectiveness, strengthening analytical capability and supporting the energy transition in Western Australia.
