There are exciting principal project officer roles available in the Strategy, Policy and Planning Directorate (SPP) within the Department of Health. Opportunities exist to be a part of a dynamic team working on system-wide health reform programs, driving change to deliver patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare across the State. Successful applicants may be appointed to roles across SPP.

Position Profile: We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Principal Project Officer to lead project development and implementation across a range of health reform, strategic planning and system change projects. The successful applicant will lead in providing advice to the WA health system executive, partners and stakeholders. Current bodies of work include supporting implementation of the Sustainable Health Review and Child Development Services Reform programs, strategic health planning, system-wide risk and programs to support the health needs of at-risk populations – driving improvements for effective functioning of the WA health system and achieving better health outcomes for Western Australians. 

Sustainable Health Implementation Support Unit (SHISU)
SHISU provides comprehensive, robust and strategic program support that assists the Minister and health reform program stakeholders to deliver system-wide change for the benefit of the community. 
SHISU supports and coordinates:
•    implementation of the 30 Recommendations of the Sustainable Health Review (SHR) Final Report. The SHR prioritises delivery of patient-centred, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare and seeks to drive a cultural shift to focus on prevention, equity and care closer to home, supported by a modern healthcare system
•    the mobilisation of the Child Development Services Reform Program, which includes implementation of an ambitious reform agenda representing a significant step forward in ensuring children in WA who have a developmental delay or concern receive timely access to supports and services
•    monitoring and reporting of the delivery of the WA Health Election Commitments to the relevant Ministers.

SHISU takes a leading role in planning and supporting implementation of the reform agenda by driving the program governance, reporting, resourcing, assurance and evaluation, and transformational change approaches. SHISU is focused on supporting reform programs centred on embedding foundational priorities; Aboriginal health, improving the health of people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and low socioeconomic status communities, reforms for older people, those with disabilities and children and young people, and improved service delivery in rural and remote communities.
 
SHISU also supports several partnership initiatives and pilots to deliver health reform priorities, including partnerships with the WA Council of Social Service, the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, and the Women’s Legal Service of Western Australia.

Strategic, Social Health Policy (SSHP)
The SSHP encompasses programs to drive strategic policy reform through collaboration with partners and robust governance and program management to enable systemwide change for at risk populations including children and young people, and victim survivors of family and domestic violence (FDV).

The SSHP seeks to deliver the following objectives:

  • System level leadership policy and reform on matters related to social determinants of health.
  • Development, implementation and oversight of Memorandum of Understandings and Bilateral Schedules across agencies to prioritise the health needs of children at risk
  • Strategic direction, evaluation, extension and expansion of Health Navigator Pilot Program.
  • Contribution, development and implementation of Whole-of-Government and systemwide reform, strategies and programs related to FDV and sexual violence.
  • Implementation of recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses of Child Sexual Abuse and National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

Note: The SSHP Program encompasses bodies of work required to implement key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and this work may involve handling sensitive information.

System Policy, Planning and Risk (SPPR)
The SPPR team is responsible for leading and coordinating systemwide strategy, planning and risk for the WA Health system. SPPR leads development of the systemwide WA Health Strategy, establishment of an integrated planning and reporting framework, and development of a systemwide approach for risk.
