The role

As the Manager Projects, Compliance and Policy you will lead the development and coordination of operational policy, legislative reform and strategic projects within the Resource and Environmental Compliance Division.

In this role, you will drive consistent and effective regulatory approaches across the mining and petroleum sectors by overseeing policy development, leading legislative change, and managing cross-branch initiatives that improve compliance and operational outcomes. You will also lead special projects that contribute to broader reform and continuous improvement across the Division.

A key focus of the role is providing high-level policy advice and leading the development of operational policy. You will also coordinate Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other executive-level documentation.

You will lead and develop a small team, building capability, supporting performance, and fostering a collaborative and improvement-focused culture. The role also involves engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry and other jurisdictions, to inform policy direction and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who enjoys leading policy development to support regulatory outcomes and delivering work that has a direct impact on how natural resources are regulated in Western Australia.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.

To work for DMPE, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, DMPE will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.
