Position
Profile
We are looking for a
Senior Orthotist to join our dedicated team at the
Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS).
In this role, you will
provide advanced orthotic services to inpatients and outpatients,
including assessment, design, manufacturing, and fitting of
orthoses for complex patient presentations including lower limb,
spinal, Rigo-Cheneau and Boston-style Orthoses. Together with the
Manager of the Orthotics Service you will have opportunity to drive
quality improvement projects such as 3D printing implementation and
evaluation of new technology to ensure our practices remain
contemporary.
You will provide operational
leadership and clinical supervision to P1 Orthotists, and junior
staff, and students, engaging as mentor, and modelling advanced
practice skills to enhance the teams overall level of clinical
skill and delivery of safe, family-centered patient
care.
Additional responsibilities
include:
- Delivering and engaging
in ongoing professional development and education to maintain
and build capability of the team, including your own skills and
knowledge.
- Educating patients and
caregivers on post-tertiary care management and providing
necessary review care plans.
- Offering
advanced orthotic clinical advice and collaborating with
multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient
care.
- Contribute to service
delivery planning and implement quality improvement and change
management strategies.
- Represent the service on
relevant committees, both internal and external, and building
stakeholder relationships that benefit our service.
A tertiary qualification
in Prosthetics and Orthotics and eligibility for full membership of
the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is required
for this role.
Experience in a
paediatric setting will be highly regarded but is not required for
this role.

About
our Orthotics Department
Our Orthotics service
provide orthoses to children and young adults from birth to 16
years who require treatment for a wide range of conditions in both
the inpatient (25%), and outpatient settings (75%).
Our dedicated staff of
clinical orthotists and technical officers support a number of
multidisciplinary teams. Working directly with Medical, Allied
health and Nursing teams (eg. Orthopaedics and Rehab
Medicine)
The Orthotics service
provided orthoses for fracture management, scoliosis, orthoses to
promote mobility, correction and prevention for various
conditions. We craft innovative custom-made orthoses those fit
for the lower limbs, spine, as well as off the shelf products for
hip dysplasia, fracture management, telepies.
We have access to emerging
technology including 3D scanners and software to support production
of orthoses. We are implementing 3D printing within the service as
part of a current improvement project.
As part of building and
developing the skills within our team, we have a creative and
robust education program in which the whole team participate – this
includes presentations from specialty departments, group training
sessions, group fitting, a journal club, and case study
analysis.
