The Role

Applications are invited for the position of Principal Information Officer.

Reporting to the Information Management and Records Manager, this senior role leads the organisation’s Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) and Freedom of Information (FOI) functions. You will provide authoritative, practical advice to senior leaders and champion a culture of privacy, transparency and responsible information sharing across the organisation.

The role is responsible for developing and maintaining privacy and FOI governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, and managing information risk. You will oversee privacy impact assessments, information sharing arrangements and incident response activities, while delivering training and guidance that builds organisation‑wide capability.

You will also represent the organisation in inter‑agency forums and contribute to continuous improvement by leveraging technology and best‑practice approaches to optimise privacy, FOI and information sharing processes.

The Person

You are a confident and values‑driven professional with strong expertise in privacy, FOI or information governance within a complex organisational environment. You bring sound judgement, a high level of integrity and the ability to interpret and apply legislation to deliver practical, compliant outcomes.

You are comfortable advising executives and influencing senior stakeholders, and you communicate complex requirements clearly to a range of audiences. You are organised, solutions‑focused and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail and statutory timeframes.

You will have experience leading small specialist teams or functions and fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high‑performance workplace, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and public sector accountability.

The Insurance Commission is a State owned Government Trading Enterprise that provides motor injury insurance to 2.7 million Western Australian motorists and manages the self-insurance arrangements of the Western Australian Government.

The Insurance Commission generated $1.4 billion in revenue over six months to 31 December 2025 and holds nearly $9.7 billion in assets, making it a major self-funded statutory authority.
