Part Time appointment at 64 hours per fortnight for 12 months with
the possibility of extension(s).
Position
Profile: We are seeking an enthusiastic and
motivated Registered Nurse to join our
Pre and Post Anaesthesia Nursing Service team at Perth Children's
Hospital (PCH). This position will work to support Aboriginal
Families through Surgical Waitlist and Pre-Admission processes and
preparing the patient and family for surgery.
The Pre and Post Anaesthesia
Nursing Service (PPANS) provides a telehealth pre-admission nursing
clinic with patient’s parent/carers one week prior to their
elective surgery date. The PPANS nurses complete a pre-operative
nursing assessment and provide consumers with information on their
upcoming procedure, as well as conducting post-operative consults
for a cohort of short stay surgical patient’s
post-discharge.
The Registered Nurse -
Aboriginal Health works across the PPANS and Elective Surgery
Waitlist (ESWL) teams to assist with care coordination, assessment,
advice and support of Aboriginal families preparing for elective
surgery. The Registered Nurse - Aboriginal Health acts as a role
model and undertakes a teaching role in nursing practice, promoting
cultural awareness and support within Surgical Services. This may
include
- Promoting effective
communication with Aboriginal families and communities in
preparing patients for surgery at PCH.
- Support
the Elective Surgery Waitlist team in contacting families from
remote and rural areas for procedure date and pre-admission
planning, in collaboration with PPANS.
- Identify
and support potential barriers to upcoming surgical admissions,
ensuring culturally appropriate strategies to support the
family.
