Applicants from the previous process SS/SS1038450 who were assessed as suitable are not required to reapply.

School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN:BE) is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools that operates under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. SSEN:BE provides educational support and services with schools for students who present with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a K-12 context. A continuum of support with schools for students is delivered through Engagement Centres, the Midland Learning Academy and the Teacher Behaviour Professional Practice team. These services are coordinated through SSEN:BE which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a Statewide model of supports for schools, teachers, and students. The services complement other teams working in networks, regions, and schools, supporting a greater number of students across the state. Support is available across the public school system.

Engagement Centres coordinate the K-12 provision of the following three services:

  • Professional learning to improve student engagement and behaviour
  • Consultative support for schools needing additional assistance with planning for those students with very complex needs
  • Direct and indirect support for individual students exhibiting the most extreme, challenging, and complex needs.

The Role

SSEN: BE is seeking to recruit dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Officers to join their teams located across the North and/or South Metropolitan Education Region. Suitable applicants may be considered for roles at and across Engagement Centres at the following metropolitan locations:

South Metro

  • Seville Drive – Armadale
  • Winterfold – Kardinya
  • Shoalwater – Safety Bay
  • Dellar Road – Maddington

North Metro

  • Heathridge – Heathridge
  • Redcliffe Ave – Balga
  • Reid St – Bassendean

Please note, this pool does not include appointments for SSEN: BE – Midland Learning Academy.

Suitable applicants will assist in the coordination of the student support program and contribute to the development and implementation of systems and intervention strategies that deliver responsive and effective support services for students, their families, and staff. They would provide support and advice to teachers on strategies for assisting students, facilitate group work processes, and build strong links between students, families, the school or college, and relevant community agencies. Ideally, they will also establish and maintain partnerships with both government and non-government organisations to enhance support networks.

Suitable applicants would actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences, providing information and consultancy advice as required. They will ideally assist in conducting student work assessments, liaising with parents, guardians, staff, and other relevant parties. Suitable applicants should support the school or college administration team in crisis management and response duties, record and collate information to develop and monitor student support strategies, and participate in research and projects focused on current youth issues, preparing written reports as needed.
