Position Profile
The Child and Adolescent
Health Service is seeking an experienced and compassionate
Senior Occupational Therapist to join our
Paediatric Palliative Care and Children’s Hospice Service. This is
a unique opportunity to provide highly specialised care that
supports the comfort, quality of life, and dignity of children with
life limiting conditions, and their families.
As a Senior Occupational
Therapist, you will deliver advanced occupational therapy services
within a multidisciplinary team, supporting children receiving
paediatric palliative care and respite services.
You will play a critical
role in helping children and families adapt to complex and changing
care needs - focusing on maintaining participation in meaningful
activities, supporting comfort and function, and enabling
family-centred care throughout the child’s journey.
This role combines advanced
clinical practice, consultancy, education, and service development,
with opportunities to influence care delivery across the service
and broader health system.
Key responsibilities
include:
- Providing advanced
assessment, intervention and clinical review for children with
complex, progressive and/or life-limiting
conditions.
- Supporting children and
families to adapt occupational goals in the context of disease
progression and end-of-life care.
- Assisting with symptom
management through task modification, equipment prescription,
education and counselling.
- Providing education,
training and support to parents and caregivers to promote safe
care and reduce risk.
- Working
collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external
services to coordinate holistic care.
- Providing clinical
supervision and support to students, allied health staff and
assistants and contributing to the development of staff
capability in paediatric palliative care.
- Participating in service
planning, evaluation and continuous quality improvement
initiatives and the development of best practice models of
care.

Experience in paediatric
palliative care and/or complex disability settings is highly
regarded.
A tertiary qualification
in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for registration with the
Occupational Therapy Board of Australia are required for this
role.

the Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) Children’s
Hospice:
Due to commence operations
mid-2026, this purpose-built, world-class paediatric hospice,
located on the stunning Western Australian coast, offers statewide
specialist paediatric palliative care services for children and
young people (0–18 years) who are living with life-limiting or
life-threatening conditions, and their families.
This state-of-the-art, 7-bed
facility will be the first of its kind in Western Australia,
providing specialised palliative care for children living with life
limiting conditions aged from birth to 18 years within a peaceful,
home-like setting that prioritises comfort, dignity and
connection.
