We are seeking to establish a pool of experienced, dedicated and caring Education Assistants – Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, fulltime and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Gosnells Primary School (PS) is home to a very successful Specialist Learning Program for Students with ASD. Applicants with the ability to understand and work within the structure, routines and evidence-based practices that support students with autism will be highly regarded. If successful in gaining a position from this pool, applicants will be required to work across mainstream classrooms and/or Specialist Learning Program classes, depending on school needs.

The Role
As an Education Assistant Special Needs at Gosnells PS, you will assist in the implementation and delivery of planned education programs and support the learning, social, emotional and behavioral development of students with diverse learning needs. Education Assistants will work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning programs, support engagement in classroom activities and assist students to achieve their identified educational goals.
Suitable applicants should be able to provide valuable feedback to teachers and other relevant staff regarding student progress, participation and achievement. They may also assist in the implementation of therapy, behavior support and individual education plans, and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of student outcomes. Education Assistants will also be responsible for preparing, organising and maintaining learning resources, classroom materials and relevant administrative documentation to support effective teaching and learning programs.
Applicants should display patience, initiative, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a dynamic school environment. The capacity to build positive relationships with students, staff and families, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality, is desirable to this important role. Experience in supporting students with a range of learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex mental health diagnoses, is highly desirable. The ability to remain calm in high-pressure environments, particularly when students are dysregulated or during emergency situations, is desirable. Applicants should display a consistently student-focused approach, inspire a passion for learning in others, and value the sense of achievement that comes from supporting student growth and success.

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
