The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. About the opportunity

There is currently one (1) 12 month, fixed-term and full-time position with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for immediate filling. 

As a project manager in Work Health and Safety, you will lead the delivery of complex projects that support departmental and government objectives, ensuring all activities align with WHS legislation, policies, and risk management practices. You will oversee project and contract management processes, monitor compliance, and address any non-compliance issues to maintain safe and effective outcomes.

You will provide clear advice and reporting to stakeholders, apply consistent project management frameworks, and support team capability development. The role also involves building strong relationships, promoting collaboration, and fostering a high-performing, safety-focused culture.

We are looking for individuals with:   

  • Expertise in managing safety, health and wellbeing programs, compliance and risk
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and building strong, trust-based stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, frameworks, and performance measures
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, engage stakeholders, and influence senior leaders while supporting cross-agency collaboration

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment. If not currently held, this must be acquired prior to appointment at applicant’s expense. 

This process may be used to fill other same/similar fixed term, permanent, vacancies that arise in DPIRD at locations listed in this advert. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the approval of the initial recruitment decision.
