Hampton Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to appoint an innovative and collaborative Lead Education Assistant to join their Specialist Learning Program: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Learning Support Program.

The Role

The responsibilities of this role may include:

  • Collaborating with Program Coordinators to support education assistants and teachers in the implementation of effective programs and pedagogical practices that meet the diverse needs of students with special needs.
  • Supporting teachers within the Specialised Learning Program (SLP), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Learning Support settings.
  • Facilitating the training, coordination and backfill of Education Assistants to deliver small‑group instruction in Focus Literacy and Numeracy classes, using explicit teaching programs such as MacqLit and Corrective Reading.
  • Leading, mentor, coach and model effective practice for Education Assistants across the Learning Support and SLP teams.
  • Supporting Education Assistants to implement individualised programs that improve students’ academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self‑regulation.
  • Assisting in planning and delivering worksite induction and ongoing training for Education Assistants.
  • Assisting in the performance management of Education Assistants, including conducting classroom observations and providing feedback to Education Assistants and the Manager Corporate Services and/or Principal.
  • Assisting with arranging and maintaining Education Assistant rosters, including sourcing and organising relief staff as required.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering planned education programs, exercising discretion, initiative and sound judgement in problem solving, decision making, and selecting appropriate methods and processes to achieve outcomes.
  • Coordinating, collect and contribute to the presentation of student and program data to support informed decision‑making at a whole‑school level.
  • Undertaking duties within or outside the classroom environment that may include the supervision of students, including at times without the direct presence of a teacher.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development, cohesion and effectiveness of the Learning Support and SLP teams.
  • Playing a key role in strengthening inclusive practices that support positive student outcomes, wellbeing and future pathways.

Ideally, applicants will be able to work effectively within a professional learning community, engaged in providing highly effective direction and support for staff and students.

The successful applicant should ideally have considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plan. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable to succeed in this role.
