About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a proactive Legal Support Assistant to join the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) in our Legal and Legislative Services directorate. In this role you’ll provide paralegal and administrative support to lawyers and senior officers, helping deliver responsive legal services that support a safer, healthier and more sustainable transport system for Western Australia.
This is a full-time permanent position available for immediate filling.

About the team
Legal and Legislative Services provides legal advice, representation in courts and tribunals, litigation management and support, and drafting of legal documents. The team also manages a significant legislative drafting program for the Department.
What you’ll do
- Prepare legal documentation and assist with prosecution briefs and court files (physical and online).
- Track documentation and workflows to support timely, accurate completion of files.
- Liaise with courts, internal clients, other agencies, external solicitors and the State Solicitor’s Office regarding legal documents and processes.
- Review incoming correspondence and instructions and determine appropriate administrative action.
- Use court systems to lodge documents and monitor upcoming matters.
- Support effective information management and recordkeeping practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of administrative processes and provide responsive business support to the branch.
What we’re looking for
- Experience delivering administrative support services (or similar), with the ability to find solutions to administrative and/or operational problems.
- Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- High-level organisational skills, including working independently, prioritising and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets and databases).
Successful applicants will be required to hold or obtain a current National Police Clearance prior to commencement.

(SC1) Demonstrated experience in the effective delivery of an administrative support services or similar with the demonstrated ability to find solutions to administrative and/or operational problems.
(SC2) Sound verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to liaise and relate effectively to stakeholders at all levels and in a variety of contexts
(SC3) High level organisational skills, with demonstrated experience working independently, identifying priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
