Stretching from the Pilbara Region in the south to the Northern Territory border in the east, the Kimberley Region manages over 3,800,000 hectares of land and water on behalf of the Western Australian community. Visitor highlights include Purnululu, Windjana Gorge, Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks, as well as world class marine-based experiences including Horizontal Falls and Montgomery Reef.
The region has two major work centres: one in Broome which accommodates the regional office and West Kimberley District; the other in Kununurra (East Kimberley District).
We currently have an opportunity for a District Coordinator Conservation to join our team.
Under the limited direction of the District Manager, this position:
- Plans and implements the conservation service in the West Kimberley District, through leadership of the conservation team and in liaison with the District Manager, Regional Leader Conservation and the district corporate team.
- Directs, coordinates, prepares and delivers wildlife conservation plans, threat abatement programs, area management plans and monitoring programs.
- Provides advice on conservation and wildlife management matters.
- Contributes through close collaboration with the District Fire Coordinator, to district fire planning for prescribed burns and provides advice on burning strategies for biodiversity conservation in land management.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in supervising the on-ground delivery of nature conservation, and natural resource management, including a sound knowledge of the threats to nature conservation and wildlife values and the measures required to rehabilitate and recover those values.
- Evidence of a high level of supervisory and human resource management skills and experience of high level leadership, including the ability to conduct performance development and management reviews.
- Evidence of high level oral communication and interpersonal skills and experience in effectively liaising and negotiating with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, indigenous groups and community interest groups, and an ability to manage researchers, volunteers, contractors and apply for external grant applications. Demonstrated willingness and ability to work with Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, administrative and financial management including budget preparation, expenditure control and financial reporting.
