Join us as a Youth Education Advisor and make a real impact in the lives of young people.
Banksia Hill Detention Centre is seeking to appoint a dedicated, innovative and hardworking Youth Education Advisor to work collaboratively with our leadership team, teachers and stakeholders. The successful applicant should be an enthusiastic and highly focussed individual with effective communication and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be able to form effective working relationships and have a strong interest in supporting teachers and young people in a correctional setting.
In this dynamic role, you’ll empower young people who offend by connecting them with high quality, tailored education and vocational training pathways. You will provide expert, up to date advice to justice staff, and external stakeholders, helping ensure that compulsory school aged young people meet their education requirements and access meaningful learning opportunities that support their future.
You’ll play a key role in communicating the progress and achievements of young people in custody to internal and external stakeholders. Your work will include developing individual education plans, maintaining accurate records and data, and using educational evidence and analysis to boost engagement in learning. Collaboration is central to this role, you’ll work closely with agencies, organisations and government departments to expand opportunities and improve outcomes for young people within the justice system.
The successful applicant should be resilient, approachable, reflective and be capable of working independently. Being highly organised and someone who can multi-task in a high paced environment is essential.
The work environment can at times be unpredictable. It is important that the successful applicant be someone who remains calm under pressure, who adheres to reporting policies and procedures and has ideally displayed positive outcomes in similar roles. Being culturally responsive and having proven experience working with and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to improve outcomes will be regarded highly.

Eligibility
Qualification - A tertiary education qualification and have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
