The Opportunity

The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is establishing a pool of suitably experienced, Finance Officers (Level 4) and Senior Finance Officers (Level 5) to fill current and future vacancies (fixed term and/or permanent, full-time and/or part-time) within Business Information Systems – IT Governance and Assurance. If you enjoy partnering with stakeholders, delivering accurate reporting, and turning financial data into practical advice, we’d like to hear from you.

This pool may be used to fill current and future vacancies for fixed term, full time or part time appointments, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. We currently have one (1) permanent Level 4 position and (1) permanent Level 5 position available for immediate filling.

The Business Information Systems (BIS) directorate manages information technology functions, information management services and ICT governance, enabling our clients to achieve their objectives through reliable and secure systems.

About the roles

Level 4 Finance Officer

In this role, you will provide operational financial and accounting support across BIS, ensuring accurate reporting, sound recordkeeping and compliance with financial policies and legislation.

You will process journals and other transactions, complete reconciliations, and analyse expenditure/revenue to support month-end reporting. Assist with financial reporting and variance analysis across recurrent and capital activities, including project monitoring and forecasting. Maintain cost allocations and audit-ready records. You’ll bring finance operations experience, stakeholder engagement, intermediate Excel/FMIS capability, and an accounting qualification (or equivalent).

Level 5 Senior Finance Officer

As a Senior Finance Officer, you will deliver end-to-end financial management and business advisory support to the Business Information Systems (BIS) Directorate.

Working closely with the CIO, Directors and Managers, you will help shape budgets and forecasts, produce accurate and timely reporting, and provide clear insights on performance across recurrent, capital works and externally funded programs. You will also support strong financial governance through quality accounting, reconciliations and continuous improvement to systems, processes and cost allocation practices.

There are currently two permanent positions available for immediate filling.

(SC6) Experience in a financial service environment including experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger using an integrated Finance Management Information System (FMIS), including intermediate MS Excel skills.

Level 5

(SC1) Financial management experience and skills including the ability to monitor and report on complex budget and other financial issues.

(SC3) Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and consult with a range of stakeholders in various contexts.

(SC5) Conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to provide solutions to complex problems.

The CV must contain the complete names and contact information of two (2) referees who can provide feedback on the applicant's capacity to meet all the Essential Work-Related Requirements. At least one of the referees should be the applicant's immediate (most recent) supervisor/manager unless there are exceptional circumstances.
