About The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Building Compliance Officer to join the State Permit Authority team, playing a key role in the delivery and oversight of a diverse portfolio of non-residential projects across Western Australia. These projects range from small community-based works, such as public facility upgrades, through to large and complex developments including hospitals, schools, and major public infrastructure.
In this role, you will apply sound technical knowledge of building legislation, the National Construction Code and relevant standards to assess compliance, provide informed advice, and support robust decision‑making within the State Permit Authority framework.
You will operate effectively both collaboratively and autonomously, bringing a proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to navigate complex compliance matters while maintaining a strong community and public interest focus. You will engage professionally with a broad range of stakeholders across government and industry, applying legislation with sound judgement, consistency and integrity, while taking a practical, outcomes‑focused approach.
About You:
You are a technically capable building professional with a strong understanding of building legislation, the National Construction Code, and relevant standards, supported by significant experience in non‑residential building construction or maintenance. You may already hold, or be working towards, qualification and registration as a Building Surveying Practitioner with Building and Energy Western Australia.
You will bring sound judgement and a practical, solutions‑focused approach to compliance, with the ability to interpret technical documentation, prepare clear reports, and apply legislation consistently and fairly. You are a strong communicator with well‑developed interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and contribute to high‑quality outcomes that support the public interest.
The position operates in Personal Leadership context. This means that you are required to demonstrate personal accountability for delivering excellence and support your team and agency in delivering strategic goals. You will be expected to build and nurture relationships and be willing to seek feedback and learn.
How to Apply:
If you have what it takes to be part of our dynamic and forward-thinking team, submit the following in MS Word or PDF format only:
- A comprehensive CV that shows your skills, experiences and key achievements, including the contact details of two referees (with one being your current or most recent supervisor).
- Cover letter of two (2) pages or less, outlining how you meet the essential requirements of the role and demonstrate leadership behaviours.
Please ensure you apply before the closing deadline as we won’t accept late and incomplete applications.
