This is a Permanent Full-Time position for 76 hours per
fortnight (job share and secondments may be considered for the
right applicant/s)
Our Vision for Capacity and Access
Our vision for Capacity and Access at PCHN is to ensure every
child and young person receives the right care, in the right place,
at the right time - whether that is in our hospitals, their local
hospitals or via an alternative model of care such as Hospital in
the Home (HiTH) or virtual services.
Achieving this requires strong collaboration across clinical and
operational teams to ensure safe, effective and timely access to
care and optimal use of hospital capability and capacity, while
maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and family
experience.
About the
Role
Perth Children’s Hospital and Neonatology (PCHN) are seeking a
nursing leader with strong commitment to family and family-centred
care to join our Corporate Nursing team as Coordinator of
Nursing. This is a unique opportunity to further develop
your strategic and operational leadership capability while gaining
exposure to WA Health system and reform initiatives.
Reporting to the Nurse Director, you will play a key role in
coordinating hospital capacity and access, and other roles crucial
to delivering compliance against the National Safety and Quality
Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, the roles include:
- Clinical Deterioration and Resuscitation
- Blood Management
- Transition to Adult Care
- Behavioural Support
- Nurse Coordinator Access
- Nurse Manager Staffing
- Discharge Coordination
- Equipment and Consumables (supporting safe transition to

Working closely with your team, executive leadership, clinical
and operational teams, you will lead initiatives that support
quality and safety and timely access to care, including: demand and
capacity planning, safe discharge planning, repatriation and
escalation management.
You will leverage data and operational insights to enable
responsiveness during periods of demand pressure - ensuring beds
remain available for children requiring tertiary care. This means
listening to front line teams, identifying delays and barriers,
implementing practical solutions, and supporting alternative care
pathways such as HiTH and telehealth.
In addition, you will contribute to broader statewide reform
initiatives aimed at strengthening how demand and capacity are
monitored and managed across Western Australia.
Success in this role will depend on your ability to build strong
relationships, lead teams through competing priorities and foster
effective multidisciplinary collaboration, together with robust
application of change management principles.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing expert nursing advice to executive leadership and
key stakeholders to align nursing practice with hospital
strategy, policy and system reform priorities.
- Monitoring performance data, patient flow metrics and
safety indicators to inform decision-making.
- Overseeing compliance with key performance indicators and
national standards.
- Participating in State Health Operations Centre (SHOC)
discussions and planning.
- Contributing to policy development, clinical protocols and
quality improvement initiatives to ensure that service delivery
models reflect best practice and respond to changing healthcare
needs.
- Supporting and leading change management and service
improvement initiatives working to ensure hospital services
evolve, while maintaining safe, efficient and patient-centred
care.
- Mentoring staff and leaders, building capability and
fostering a culture of improvement that helps evidence-based
approaches into everyday clinical care.
If you are a collaborative and strategic leader with experience
in a related role in a complex healthcare environment, we encourage
you to apply.
Experience in quality improvement, project management and/or
change management is desirable but not essential.
