The role

Our Consumer Protection Division is responsible for promoting fair trading and consumer protection in Western Australia.  This role sits within the Legislation and Policy Directorate which is responsible for the development, implementation and review of Consumer Protection legislation and policy, Consumer Protection projects and also contributes to the national development of the Australian Consumer Law.

As a Policy Officer you will support the development, delivery and review of legislation and policy  across Consumer Protection’s areas of responsibility.  In this role you will:

  • provide practical advice on consumer protection policy issues;
  • gather, analyse and interpret evidence to inform policy development;
  • engage and consult with different people and organisations to ensure policy work is well‑informed, balanced and responsive to stakeholder needs;
  • co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate operational and statutory reform consumer protection projects in line with business plans;
  • keep up to date with current and emerging consumer protection trends and issues; and contribute to other initiatives and tasks as required.

You will bring to this role strong analytical and research skills, the ability to communicate well with a wide range of stakeholders, an interest in legislation, policy and consumer protection and the ability to manage tasks and projects within agreed timeframes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.

To work for LGIRS, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, LGIRS will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.
